Tamara Gayer

Tamara Gayer (b. New York, NY) makes drawings, installations, and videos that manipulate, invert, and expand forms and colors creating work that is both forward looking and historically grounded. Her work experiments with perceptions of interior and exterior space.

SmartSpaces presented Tamara Gayer: Color Coordinated (2008) in the windows of 266 West 33rd Street.

Gayer holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA in combined media from Hunter College. She grew up in Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv. She is a founding member of Hint House, one of New York’s longest running artist/musician collectives. In New York her work has been exhibited at Foxy Production, Exit Art, and Smack Mellon, among others. Her work is in several prominent collections including the Museum of Modern Art.  In her quest to bring art as close as possible to the public, she has also exhibited at a broad range of cultural institutions, non-art venues and festivals. In recent years, in addition to SmartSpaces, these include the Macedonian Art Foundation, Fourth Street Art Block Festival, WayHome and Artscape/Youngplace, The Center for Gender, and Sexual Diversity at Penn State. She lives and works in New York City.
